Jasprit Bumrah, an acknowledged pacer for India, is expected to miss this game because he has departed for Mumbai to be at the birth of his first child.
The Asia Cup 2023 match between India and New Zealand is due to be played on Monday, September 4, but star pacer Jasprit Bumrah of India has gone to Mumbai to attend the birth of his first child. Due to Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganesan's impending pregnancy, the star bowler will miss the match against Nepal.
To be noted, Bumrah had been away from cricket for approximately a year before rejoining the Indian team to captain a somewhat inexperienced Indian team on the Ireland tour. Men in Blue defeated the Irish team with ease, and the right-arm pacer was named player of the series for his precise bowling.Bumrah played for the Indian team that faced Pakistan in their Asia Cup opener. The weather, however, prevented the game from being finished because Rohit Sharma and company could only bat.
Bumrah will be absent from the match against Nepal on Monday, as was already reported. To advance to the Super 4 phases of the major competition, India must win this match.
Bumrah will be fully available for team India’s next match in the Super 4 stages. Meanwhile, senior pacer Mohammed Shami is expected to replace the MI pacer. Shami was not part of the playing XI against Pakistan. All-rounder Shardul Thakur was given preference over Shami but he failed to give any results with the bat.
