India vs. Netherlands Warm-Up Match Abandoned Due to Heavy Rain in Thiruvananthapuram;
The warm-up game between India and the Netherlands has been called off due to the heavy rain, according to BCCI. "UPDATE: The warm-up match between India and the Netherlands is abandoned owing to severe rain," it posted on Facebook. Due to the weather in Thiruvananthapuram, even the toss was postponed. Before the World Cup, India won't warm up.
Today's cricket match between India and the Netherlands was originally scheduled to be held at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The purpose of this match was to provide ample opportunities to each player as India fine-tuned their starting Eleven for their opening match in the ICC World Cup 2023, set to take place on October 8 against Australia.
India's recent victory over the five-time world champions, Australia, in a series has boosted their confidence as they prepare for the crucial World Cup. This event marks the return of the World Cup to India after a 12-year hiatus.
In their first warm-up match on September 30, the Netherlands faced Australia at the same venue. Unfortunately, the game was interrupted by rain, and no result could be determined. During their 23 overs, Australia managed to score 166 runs while losing 3 wickets. On the other hand, the Netherlands could only muster 84 runs and lost 6 wickets before the match had to be called off.
In a recent report by Cricbuzz, it was noted that former Indian captain Virat Kohli did not accompany the Indian squad on their flight from Guwahati to Thiruvananthapuram. Instead, he flew to Mumbai due to a 'personal emergency'.
According to reports, the rest of the Indian contingent arrived on Sunday evening in preparation for the match against the Netherlands scheduled for October 3.
Similar to their previous encounter, rain played a significant role in this warm-up match as well. It's worth noting that Thiruvananthapuram has experienced the most canceled warm-up matches (2) for the ICC World Cup 2023 due to rain.
Unfortunately, after a delay caused by rain, today's match had to be called off. This marks the third warm-up match in Thiruvananthapuram to suffer the same fate due to inclement weather conditions.
