KL Rahul is making good progress and is expected to keep wickets for Team India in the Asia Cup in 2023 in the IND vs. PAK match.
Promising update on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.
As the Indian squad gets ready for the next Asia Cup 2023, all eyes are on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. The Men in Blue are currently taking part in a training camp at Alur, close to Bengaluru, in preparation for the next continental tournament.
The first match of the tournament's sixteenth edition between hosts Pakistan and Nepal is set to take place in Multan on August 30. Team India, on the other hand, will begin their campaign against Pakistan in Pallekele on Saturday, September 2.
The team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma is now in Bengaluru to polish their tournament preparations. Furthermore, it cannot be denied that Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are the subject of significant interest. Both batsmen, who are essential components of India's middle order in ODIs, will play in competitive cricket once more during the Asia Cup. Both of them missed quite a bit of time due to injury.
Rahul became unavailable in May after sustaining a thigh injury in the IPL 2023, and Shreyas Iyer has not participated in a competitive match since suffering a back injury during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in March. Both batsmen will attempt to get off to a fast start in international cricket before the World Cup after their selection in the Asia Cup team.
While there are still concerns over Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries, Cricbuzz has reported that their progress has been satisfactory so far. There are still question marks over Rahul’s readiness for wicketkeeping as the selectors have also named Sanju Samson as a backup wicketkeeper but the 31-year-old has been making good progress.
The players had a day off on Sunday, and Rahul will take on greater wicketkeeping responsibilities when preparation begins on Monday. Before the team departs for Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Jasprit Bumrah and other players who were recently in Ireland for the T20I series will also join the team in Bengaluru on Monday.
