On Tuesday, September 5, India announced their 15-person ODI World Cup 2023 squad. One month before the ODI World Cup 2023, the selection committee met in Sri Lanka to reveal the preliminary team. Despite worries about his health, India wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul was included on the 15-person list of probables.
It was clear that the Indian team management wished hard for KL Rahul to be healthy in time for the World Cup, which begins on October 5 at home. The outstanding wicketkeeper-batter, who excelled in the middle order with seven fifties and a century at No. 5, has been a crucial component of India's ODI lineup.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were both nominated to the Indian team for the 2023 Asia Cup, however KL Rahul was unable to play in the opening two games owing to a "fresh niggle" unconnected to the thigh ailment that sidelined him for three months.
Despite his recent success as an opener, Ishan Kishan took the gloves in KL Rahul's place against Pakistan and batted at No. 5. Ishan demonstrated his mettle with a spectacular 81-ball 82 that helped India escape trouble on Saturday in Pallekele after Rohit Sharma's team fell to 66 for 4.
So now it will be interesting to see the combinations of the playing 11 squad during the World Cup, will the management choose the left hander and on which position.
